Privacy Policy

We'll do this in plain English, because that's how we write everything else on this site.

RenoRoofingCo.com is an independent homeowner resource, and it's free to read. Most of what's here — the cost guides, the how-it-works articles, the local permit and fire-code pages — you can read without giving us anything at all.

If you choose to use our roof walkthrough and ask for quotes, that's different, and this page is where we tell you exactly what happens next. The short version, before the details:

We are a referral business. When you ask for quotes, we send what you told us to up to 3 licensed roofing contractors in your area, and those contractors pay us for the introduction. Under California and Nevada privacy law, that probably counts as selling your information. You can tell us not to, at any time, and we'll honor it: Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information.

We'd rather say that in the first paragraph than bury it on page four.

What we collect

What you tell the walkthrough. Your relationship to the property, the address and zip, what's going on with the roof, how much of the work you're thinking of doing yourself, roof type and pitch, roof age, approximate size, whether insurance is involved, your timeline, an optional budget, and any notes you type. We save these step by step as you go, before you ever reach the contact screen — so if you close the tab halfway through, a partial record exists on our server.

Your contact information. First and last name and email are required to get your report. Phone and street address are optional; a lot of people leave the phone off, and the walkthrough still works.

Photos, if you send them. The photo step is genuinely optional. If you do send photos of your home, we keep them with your request and pass them to the contractors we refer you to, because photos are how the roof actually gets sized.

Technical data, automatically. When you submit anything, our server records the time, your IP address, and your browser's user-agent string. This is boring plumbing — abuse prevention and, in the case of a consent record, proof of who agreed to what and when.

Where you came from. If you arrived from an ad or a search, the link often carries tracking parameters (utm_source, utm_campaign, fbclid, gclid and similar) and a referring page. We keep those so we know which ads and articles are worth running.

A TrustedForm certificate. On the contact step, a script from ActiveProspect (TrustedForm) records an independent, tamper-evident certificate of the page as you saw it and the consent language you agreed to. We store the certificate URL with your record. It exists to protect you and us: if anyone ever disputes what you consented to, the certificate is the receipt.

Information from other sources. Separately from this website, we sometimes obtain records of people who previously asked about roofing or home-improvement services from third-party data sources. Those records are used for advertising only — to show relevant ads to people who might want this information — and they are kept in a separate system from the requests submitted here.

Nothing else. No accounts, no passwords, no payment information — we never charge homeowners, so we never take a card. Reading an article sends us nothing but ordinary web-server traffic.

Why we collect it

Who your information goes to

Up to 3 licensed roofing contractors. If you complete the walkthrough and give consent, we share your request — your answers, your contact details, your photos if you sent them — with up to 3 roofing companies that serve your area and that represent to us that they hold an active Nevada State Contractors Board C-15 or C-15a license. They contact you directly. Our contracts with them require that they use your information only to respond to your roofing inquiry, and that they run their own compliance on any follow-up they do.

Our service providers. The companies that make the site run: our hosting and data storage provider (Cloudflare), our email delivery provider, our call-routing and call-tracking provider if you call a tracked number, and ActiveProspect for the TrustedForm certificate. They handle your information to provide those services to us, not for their own marketing.

Advertising platforms. See "Cookies, pixels, and ad tracking" below — that includes uploading a scrambled (hashed) version of an email address or phone number so a platform can show you our ads.

When the law requires it. A valid subpoena, court order, or legal obligation; or to protect someone's safety or our legal rights.

Not anyone else. We don't rent or sell email lists, we don't sell reader or article-browsing data, and we don't post your information anywhere public.

Is this a "sale" of my information?

Probably, and we're not going to play word games about it.

Contractors compensate us for the introduction when we pass along your request. California's CCPA defines "sale" broadly enough — disclosing personal information to a third party for money or other valuable consideration — that this transaction is very likely a sale, and uploading identifiers to an advertising platform is very likely a share for cross-context behavioral advertising. Nevada's NRS 603A gives residents a similar right to opt out of the sale of covered information.

So we treat it as a sale and a share, and we give everyone the right to opt out, whichever state you live in:

→ Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

We also honor the Global Privacy Control browser signal. If your browser or extension sends a GPC signal, we treat it as an opt-out of sale and sharing for that browser automatically — you don't have to email us.

One honest limitation: opting out stops future sharing. If we already delivered your request to a contractor before you opted out, we can't unsend it. We will tell that contractor you've opted out and add you to our internal do-not-share list so it never happens again.

The consent you give at the contact step

The checkbox on the last step of the walkthrough is real consent under the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act, so it should say something real. Here's what it says, word for word:

I'm asking Reno Roofers to help me get roofing quotes. I understand that the details I entered will be shared with Reno Roofers and with up to 3 licensed roofing contractors serving my area, and that they may contact me at the phone number and email address I gave — by phone call, text message, and email — including with automated dialing technology, a prerecorded message, or an artificial or AI-generated voice. This consent isn't required to buy anything: I can get my roof done without it, and I'm free to hire whoever I want. Message and data rates may apply and message frequency varies. I can reply STOP to any text to stop the texts, use the unsubscribe link in any email, or just tell a caller to take me off the list. I've read the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

Four things worth repeating:

How long we keep things

What How long
Consent record (text, version, timestamp, IP, user-agent, certificate URL) 5 years from your last contact with us
Completed quote request (answers + contact details) 24 months from your last activity, then deleted
Photos you sent 12 months, then deleted
Partial/abandoned walkthroughs with no contact information 90 days, then deleted
Email list subscription Until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you
Unsubscribe / do-not-contact / do-not-sell records Kept indefinitely — we have to remember you said no in order to keep honoring it
Server and delivery logs 12 months

If you ask us to delete your information, we delete it on that schedule instead — but we keep the minimum needed to remember that you opted out, and we keep consent records where the law requires us to retain them.

Security, stated honestly

Your information travels over HTTPS and is stored in Cloudflare's infrastructure. Access to the lead store is limited to the people who run this business and is protected by an admin key. We don't handle payment data, so there's no card information here to steal.

What we won't tell you: that it's impossible to breach. No small business can honestly promise that, and any site that does is telling you something it can't back up. What we can promise is that we collect less than we could, delete on a schedule instead of hoarding, and would tell you promptly if something went wrong.

Cookies, pixels, and ad tracking

On the site itself: the walkthrough stores your progress in your browser (sessionStorage/localStorage) so a refresh doesn't lose your answers, and sends a random session ID to our server so partial answers attach to one record. That's functional, not tracking, and clearing your browser storage clears it.

Our educational articles — everything under Learn, Process, Local, and Costs — carry no third-party advertising or analytics scripts.

Pages you reach from an ad (our paid landing pages, and the walkthrough itself) may carry conversion tags from Meta (Facebook/Instagram) and Google, which tell those platforms that a visit or a submission happened so we can measure and target advertising. Those platforms set their own cookies and identifiers under their own privacy policies.

Custom audiences. We may upload a hashed (scrambled) form of an email address or phone number to Meta or Google so they can show our ads to that person or to people like them. This is the "sharing" the opt-out above covers. You can also control ad personalization directly in your Meta and Google account settings.

You can block all of this with browser settings, tracking protection, or an ad blocker, and the site will still work — including the walkthrough.

Your rights

We honor these requests from anyone who asks, whether or not a specific statute covers you.

Everyone:

California residents (CCPA/CPRA) additionally have the right to know the categories of personal information collected, the sources, the business purpose, and the categories of third parties it's disclosed to — all of which are set out above — plus the right to limit use of sensitive personal information. We don't collect sensitive personal information as the CCPA defines it (no government IDs, no financial account numbers, no precise geolocation, no health data). We respond to access, deletion, and correction requests within 45 days, extendable once by another 45 days if it's complicated, and we act on opt-out requests within 15 business days.

Nevada residents (NRS 603A) have a specific statutory right under NRS 603A.340 to direct us not to sell covered information. Send that request to privacy@renoroofingco.com with the subject line "Nevada Opt-Out" — it's our designated address for these requests. We verify and respond within 60 days, with up to a 30-day extension if we need it.

Everywhere else: more states pass privacy laws every year, and rather than maintaining a table of them, we just apply the rights above to everyone.

How to exercise your rights

The fastest route is the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page, which handles opt-outs, access, correction, and deletion in one place.

Or email privacy@renoroofingco.com directly. Tell us what you want done, and include the name, email, and phone number you used so we can find your record — we may ask one follow-up question to confirm it's really you, and we use what you send us only to process the request. An authorized agent can submit on your behalf with written permission.

Since we operate entirely online and only hold information for people who contacted us here, email is our designated request method.

Children

This site is about roof replacement. It's for adults who own or are responsible for a building. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and we have no interest in doing so. If you believe a minor submitted information, email privacy@renoroofingco.com and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how any of this works, we'll update this page and change the date at the top. If we make a material change to who your information gets shared with, we'll say so on the walkthrough itself — the place where the decision actually gets made — not just here.
